Bigelow Chinese Oolong Tea Review

October 18, 2011 by Jonathan Leave a Comment

The eastern art of diet and weight loss through tea is something completely foreign to the citizens of the setting sun.  Study after study has been used to try and find out what the big secret is.

Personally I enjoy a cup of hot tea very much.  My wife on the other hand, loves hers ice cold.  However you take yours, I’m sure you can agree that you probably enjoy tea to.  I decided to go the tasty route and take a look at Bigelow Chinese Oolong Tea.

How Does Bigelow Chinese Oolong Tea Work?

As far as any weight loss product goes, tea might be the easiest to use.  Like any other bag tea you heat your water, let the bag sit in the heated water, wait with anticipation, and then enjoy.  Truly, the hardest part is the wait.  Just like your morning cup of coffee, it will take some time to brew.

The actual weight loss part of the tea is a little more complicated.  This isn’t a heavy fat burner that will help you drop pounds a week.  Instead, tea is a longer term treatment, or change of lifestyle.  I had to research exactly what happened.  Oolong will help steadily increase your metabolism over an extended period of time.

It blocks and burns fat through a process known as lipolysis.  A blind study in China involving rats with a high blood fat content found that feeding Oolong tea helped reduce fat content in the specimens by as much as %66.  I found this very interesting.

What Others Are Saying- Does Bigelow Oolong Tea Work?

As far as nutritional products go, Bigelow Oolong tea is often purchased more as a tasty beverage than a fat burning tool.  I found very few consumers commenting on the health benefits, but more on the taste. I think TK on Amazon said it perfectly, “Great taste and good price."  From what I read, this seems to be the general consensus from all buyers.

Edward McCoy noted that "Oolong tea was more difficult to find in the grocery store compared to other teas".  My observations were confirmed from others around the country.  Consumers often resorted to purchasing this product online.

One tea connoisseur named Lisa Mims did mention that "this tea was a little bitter for his liking".  I think that this is much like anyone with a heavy fondness for coffee.  The Folgers will work, but there is better.  When grocery store tea bags are manufactured the tea leaves are often heavily processed. It is  considered the “shake”, or the loose tiny leaves, that contain a less robust flavor.

How Much Weight Should I Expect To Lose With Bigelows Oolong Tea.

Mileage may vary from person to person.  Bigelow is not marketed towards the weight loss crowd, and as such, doesn’t market any expected weight loss.  I did find other dietitians that did say that with a heavy Oolong tea diet, mild exercise, and a good eating plan you could easily expect to lose a pound or so a week.

I find that it’s better to treat tea as a long term, healthier supplement to help keep your metabolism motorized and prevent weight from returning.

Side Effects

There are no listed side effects from Oolong tea.  Neither Bigelow, nor the FDA, has any warnings for health or pregnancy whatsoever.  I would suggest though that if tea is something that doesn’t agree with you then exercise caution drinking it.

Problems and Complaints

Lack of availability is an inconvenience to anyone.  This seems to ring true as a common complaint with this product.  Consumers often found themselves having it shipped to their house because it was not available at the grocer.  I found one store in my area that carried Bigelow’s Oolong Tea, but their supply was limited.

Did You Know?

Oolong tea has a lot of other health benefits besides weight loss assistance.

  • Much like green tea, Oolong tea is high in antioxidants.  These antioxidants help remove free radicals from your body and reduce aging effects.

  • Another study proved that consuming a liter of Oolong tea a day can reduce organ age by as much as two years.  This improved general organ function plays a significant role in anybody’s health.

  • Oolong is also an anti-allergic.  The compounds in Oolong reduce the chemical produced in your body that causes allergic reactions.

  • Oolong tea can compliment diabetes treatment.  A study performed in 2003 shown that patients that drank Oolong tea reduced plasma glucose levels by as much as %30

How Does Bigelow Oolong Tea Rate Over All?

Bigelow’s Oolong tea is a great price.  It’s a little harder to find at the grocer but can be bought online in bulk.  I enjoyed the taste thoroughly and found drinking a cup to be as relaxing as a good cup of coffee.  The health benefits are terrific.  General consumer opinion states that they enjoy it as well.
