My Chemistry.com Review
Chemistry is a premium offering from Match.com, at the moment, only available in the United States. It has been designed for people who want help in getting to know someone online well enough to start a relationship in person.
Match.com has a 14 year history of redefining the way people meet, by using the internet to have the seeker and sought after fill out extensive forms to define themselves. At over 20 million members, Chemistry offers many possible matches. They are able to send paid members 10 personalized matches to their mailbox every day.
A Chemistry search for a match begins with a “personality test” in which the applicant is encouraged to reveal who they are and what they want in a relationship. The company then sends free personalized matches which they believe have the possibility to trigger “chemistry”. If you want more information on your matches, they will supply it.
Chemistry offers help in getting to know your matches online with “fun and unique” activities where you are encouraged to flirt and learn more about each other. They also offer dating for two specific metropolitan areas: New York City and Washington, D.C.
Chemistry provides one product: match making.
Is Chemistry.com Worth it? – Key Features And Benefits
Here are a few reasons I think using Chemistry is worth it
-
They begin your experience with a personality test, not just a filling in of forms about yourself. Based on the research of biological anthropologist, Dr. Helen Fisher, they predict the people who you will have relationship and dating chemistry with.
-
They provide ample tips to keep your experience with them safe. They make certain that you understand the importance to guard your identity and protect your online access.
-
Chemistry provides a member-to-member technology. This allows you to remain anonymous until you choose to reveal who you are.
-
Chemistry gives its users safety tips for meeting offline, and a special list of tips for how to set up long distance meetings.
-
They devote a section of their online safety information to Fraud Awareness. They include a list of red flags that may mean you are dealing with a scammer.
- They have a Fraud Prevention Team which actively protects you. They ask you to report any suspicious activity or behavior immediately.
Chemistry.com Cons—Disadvantages
There is no way to know how much anything will cost without actually signing up for their service, which I find not so practical.
What Merchants Might Be Better Than Chemistry?
How Does Chemistry Compare To Similar Merchants
I picked two merchants to compare to Chemistry.
The first one I picked was eHarmony. They claim they are so successful at finding the right match that they are responsible for nearly 5% of marriages in the United States, and that on average 542 eHarmony members marry every day as a result of being matched on the eHarmony site. eHarmony is available in the U.S., Canada, Australia, and the United Kingdom. Each member is prescreened on the 29 Dimensions of Compatibility. These are scientific predictors of long-term relationship success documented by a clinical psychologist and a research professor. While it takes time to determine the 29 dimensions, eHarmony believe that is why they are so successful. Their membership is $59.95 for one month. It appears, however, that eHarmony do not approve all applications, which is why Chemistry.com have created the following commercial and the slogan: "Come As You Are".
The second one I picked was Zoosk. They have cleverly made their services available through the most popular social networks: Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, Hi5 and Bebo, and they have a Zoosk App for your iPhone. They claim over 8 million singles log in via Facebook every month and that they have registered over 50 million singles from more than 60 countries. Their basic membership is free and their paid memberships start at $19.95 a month. Zoosk was created in 2007 and aims to take advantage of the popularity of the social networks that are already in place. A blog helps people keep up with the latest Zoosk news. Their one drawback seems to be that their customer support is not very good.
What Is The Cost?
Chemistry costs $49.95 for a one-month membership, $99.96 for a 3 month membership and $159.90 for a 6-month membership. They often have discount prices once you sign up. In my case, the 3-month membership cost only $49.95!
What Are Others Saying? Testimonials—Feedback—Comments
Some of the feedback online notes that free members cannot access the full site and that paid members cannot contact free members. The site apparently has a lot of fake profiles on it. Many think it is rather costly though in fact, eHarmony costs more. You are not allowed to search the database: you only will be able to view profiles of those people matched for you by the system. One complaint was that the matching system did not take into account political preferences. Though there are negative comments, there are also many success stories.
