My goodness! Salsa dancing can be a very sexy and entertaining dance. Just watching others dance, it can provoke smiles. But it can be a very good way to drop a few extra pounds too. Latin dances, like salsa, can be an excellent cardio workout.
A lot of newer fitness routines over the past few years are based on various Latin dances. The wild and sexy movements can easily get the blood flowing and the heart racing, not to mention all the other nice effects it can have too. With that said, I wanted to take a look at "Crunch: Cardio Salsa DVD".
How Does "Crunch – Cardio Salsa DVD" Work?
In the video below, you can watch a small demonstration of the Latin dance moves and music that they will help you to lose your calories and burn your fat. Giselle Roque de Escobar herself is leading this workout video and you can watch how she motivates and exercises the whole group.
Instructor Giselle Roque de Escobar burns up the dance floor in a spicy workout session that is promising with entertainment filled calorie burn. A full routine takes the user through various steps and routines combining not only salsa, but merengue, mambo, cha cha, samba and more. Various background actors help demonstrate each step of the routine while a drummer helps keep the tempo and rhythm going.
The full routine is taught a step at a time and gradually leading up to combinations in a fast paced movement. Each step is demonstrated so even beginners can learn to follow along. A small warm up session is followed by various dance routines increasing in intensity and then finished with a nice cool down. The entire program is a low impact, high calorie burning workout.
What Are Others Saying?
Like other Crunch fitness DVDs, Salsa Cardio gives the user a nice workout but it is not overly intense. The routine is easy to follow along with and does get the person sweating a bit. Beginners can have a bit more trouble picking up the steps, but it gets much easier with use.
Salsa Cardio is not true Latin dancing. It is a nice mix of Latin dancing and cardio. If Salsa and cardio fitness got together and had a baby, this is what a person might get. Hyde found that the routine leaned more towards aerobics with Latin flared and inspired lunges and other cardio moves.
Giselle seems like a natural fit for a good fitness coach. At first, Fatita found her accent annoying. But later, after using the program a few times, found that the instructor had a very natural and aggreable feel.
Overall it’s a fun fitness routine. I found many people saying how easy the footing was to learn. The workout made the person sweat and was fun, but like Joana says, is not intense.
How Much Weight Will I Lose?
Beginners will see the largest benefit from this DVD. Like I mentioned before, the workout is not intense. It is more than enough to get the calories burning and provide a bit of a sweat as well. However, more physically fit people will not see much of a challenge from this and will need something a bit more intense.
For beginners, combined with a proper diet, a very acceptable and steady weight lose can be obtained. I can easily see how a person will lose a couple of pounds every couple of weeks. You can achieve maximum results if you combine a low-calorie diet with some strength training.
Many Latin dances have exaggerated movements in the hips, legs, and arms. Anyone with current hip or joint problems, or those with arthritis, may want to proceed with caution. I highly recommend consulting a doctor before starting any new fitness routine.
- Regardless of who you are or what fitness level you are, you can have fun and get a great workout
- With only 5-6 times of practice a week you will lose significant amount of weight
- You will find the instructor to be vigorous and energetic and she simplifies the moves so that they are easy for you to learn
- The time passes by very quickly as the exercises are seperated in six different categories
You get additional joy and fun with the live drummer Ravi and his drumming
- There is not so much Salsa or even Latin about it. It is just and only cardio without modern latin dance
- It is only for beginner and intermediate level not for experienced fitness lovers
- It requires a lot of available space in your house to do the cardio workouts
- You may find it difficult to understand Giselle as she does have a little accent. You may also find her annoying
Problems And Complaints
My largest complaint is the title and description of the product. This workout is good and deserves its own merit. But with a title like "Salsa Cardio", I expected a little more salsa. To me, the title says, “We are going to dance our butts off quickly and that’s why it has cardio in the name.” It’s a little deceiving.
I also wish that the instructor would have included different levels of intensity. A common and more popular thing to do with fitness DVDs is to use the background actors to demonstrate varying positions in different skill levels. A wider audience range and a more intense workout could have been provided with this.
