Martial arts can burn calories, and quickly. The rapid, fast paced movements ignite a furnace inside the bodies of the combatants. Pounds and fat melt away quickly. Calories disappear faster then they can be taken in. The American Olympic teams can attest to this fact. A member of the American team admitted that in order to stay healthy they had to ingest around 7000 calories in one day, mostly carbs.
So what does this mean to the average Joe looking to lose some weight at home? Martial arts cardio can be an excellent way to burn a few extra calories and stay in shape with very little time. One suggestion may be Kelly Coffey-Myer’s 30 Minutes To Fitness Kickboxing DVD.
How Does This DVD Work?
This is a home workout DVD, very simply. Kelly Coffey-Meyer was recorded performing a full workout session that I can follow at home. The DVD contains a few different segments. The segments include a 30 routine for arms, a 30 minute routine for legs, a combination of the two for an hour long routine, various remixes designed for target toning of specific areas of the bodies, and an introduction session.
Kelly is assisted by various assistants in the background. One of the assistants display more advanced movements for the seasoned fitness person to bring the exercise up a notch. Throughout each routine Kelly will participate, displaying each routine as I follow along, with various cues. A picture in picture example is displayed in the bottom corner of the screen showing the coming set.
What Are Others Saying- Does This Routine Work?
Kelly Coffey-Meyer has numerous workout DVDs with a following of users. This iteration isn’t very different from the rest. The following of people love the no nonsense approach that Kelly takes, making the workout session to the point without overly cheesy encouragements. The fast- paced movements and exercises keep each session challenging for a wide variety of skill levels.
The micro burst routines were also well received by many people. Each drill is a few minutes long before moving to the next. Each set isn’t done over and over, making sure life doesn’t get boring. The routines feel like they are constantly changing.
And, of course, pounds are lost. Users love the high intensity workout to help burn calories and increase stamina. Jane Austin says "it’s a fun DVD to be able to work out to in the comfort of your own house".
How Much Weight Will I Lose?
Kelly Coffey-Meyer’s Kickboxing DVD is a fast paced, cardio workout. This is a calorie burning DVD. Just like any other exercise routine, immediate results won’t be seen. With some use though, and a proper diet, weight will drop and muscle will be toned. I noticed within a few weeks that I was missing an inch or two from my waist.
Cardio regimens can sometimes be high impact and stressful on the body. Before starting any new routine, a doctor should be consulted. Make sure that you are physically able to actively participate.

Problems And Complaints
It’s very hard to appreciate the sweet without understanding the bitter. I do have a few issues that I found bothersome.
Kelly’s cues aren’t the greatest. Each drill practices a different combination of punches such as uppercuts, hooks, or jabs. Instructions given during each drill set is a simple “punch” rather then “up”, “jab”, or “hook” cue. As Beth points out, "more informative cues would have been nice for this fast paced movement".
Another issue Mrs. Miller and I found was that "the “30 minute” sessions were not actually 30 minutes". The first was only 27 minutes and the second was 24 minutes. I was able to go through the warm up sessions separately to extend the workouts to 30 minutes, but I was forced to do this manually.
Another user complained of the workout intensity, or lack there of. She did explain that she would consider herself a veteraned at home fitness person though, and still recommended this DVD for beginners. But the workout series didn’t pose much of a challenge for her.

How Does 30 Minutes To Fitness Kickboxing Rate Overall?
This DVD workout video isn’t bad. I found that the quick moving cardio got me sweating and out of breath. Kelly includes a quality intro that makes up for the poor cues. Introducing good exercise and lifestyle changes is always more beneficial for the waist line then pills. The price is very competitive as well.
I can recommend this DVD for home use without losing much sleep. Even after the routines and drills become easy and the body isn’t challenged, the DVD does make for a fun visit as a change of scenery from other workout routines. Kelly Coffey-Meyer’s 30 Minutes To Fitness Kickboxing DVD makes an excellent addition to the home fitness toolbox.
