Omron HBF-306CN Fat Loss Monitor Review

April 7, 2010 by admin Leave a Comment

A fat-loss monitor is a must-have for all health-conscious individuals and families. If you’re trying to lose, gain or maintain weight, this is a precious tool to have handy at home. You can calculate the total fat content and the visceral fat (located around the organs) content by either generating a Body Mass Index (BMI) or through the Bioelectrical Impedance (BI) Method.

What Is BMI?

This is an index which tells you whether your weight in relation to your height and gender falls within the normal, lower than normal, higher than normal, too thin or obese ranges.
What is the BI Method?

Since your blood vessels, muscles and bones have a lot of water content, the Omron Fat Loss Monitor uses this water content to send a very weak electrical current through your system to determine the amount of fat tissue in your body.

Bioelectrical Impedance or BMI – Which Is More Useful?

The BI method is real-time and more useful. You cannot calculate it by yourself. In contrast, you can calculate your BMI any time by yourself on the internet. So unless you don’t have net access, the BI method is what you should want this monitor for!

How Does The BI Method work?

It will initially take in your bio-data like height, age, gender and weight, after which, you’ll need to input a numeric equivalent of your activity level. The manual that you will get with the monitor will tell you how to determine your activity level. It’s as easy as it gets!

It Is Not Costly And It Can Be Shared

It has the capacity to store data of upto 9 people, so the entire family can benefit from one monitor. You can get Amazon deals at a very good price, and of course, you can qualify for Super Saver delivery.

Quick Game

And it doesn’t take a lot of time to do what needs to be done either. In the words of Amazon customer, Silvia, “It takes about one minute to set up the personal information that it needs and takes a few seconds to get the body fat readings, very fast.”

Accurate Body Fat Analysis

Julia bought this monitor from Amazon, and finds that its body fat analysis is inaccurate, to say the least. She got her skinfold test done by 3 different people, who gave her a 17% count. The fat loss monitor, however, has been giving her 25%. But as Chandler in Austin, Texas points out, wrong readings are usually a result of user error, which could be one of the following:

  • using it first thing in the morning rather than 3 hours after a meal;
  • using it prior to emptying the bladder;
  • using the wrong mode (“normal” instead of “athlete” or vice versa)

Another user noticed that keeping it high or low provided for different readings. For the most accurate reading, it is suggested that the monitor always be held at a 90 degree angle.

A professional personal trainer rates this fat monitor your money’s worth. Nothing out there is a 100% accurate but this one is as close as it gets.

Monitor Your Diet and Exercise Regime

An added benefit of using the fat loss monitor is to keep abreast of the progress you’re making while losing weight. If you go for the overkill, your readings will show you that you’re losing too much muscle or that you need to start doing weights.

Whatever the case, as another user, Lisa Shea, notices, even if you’re not losing weight on the scale, the fat loss monitor will keep you informed about the muscle weight (healthy) taking over fat weight (unhealthy) in your body. Anyone on a weight-loss regime would find that this is a very motivating and encouraging piece of information.

This one comes recommended. Keep it handy!
