My Photos.com Review
Photos.com is an industry leader in digital media. It is the number one place on the internet to get professional photography, royalty free. The company was started in 2003 as a subsidiary of Getty Images, a world leader in creating and distributing still imagery, digital footage and multimedia products. The company is recognized world wide for premium content, as well as music and other backgrounds.
With the high demand of digital media for web pages, brochures and other forms of advertising, Photos.com is a valuable resource. The site can be useful for all types of web and advertising designers, desktop publishers and newsletter designers. As well as for anyone wanting to add a special touch to their email campaigns. For bloggers like myself MyPhotos.com is a necessary tool.
Photos.com have fabulous images in almost any category imaginable, some of the most popular being:
Is Photos.com Worth It? – Key Features and Benefits
Here are a few reasons my research shows that buying pictures from Photos.com is worth it:
-
One of the key benefits of Photos.com is that they always feature some type of discount. You can find seasonal specials, sign up discounts and various other coupons and promotions.
-
The merchant offers more than 2.5 million images, photos and illustrations that can be purchased individually, in packs or by subscription. Every image and creative piece of artwork is royalty free. That means you can purchase instantly one or more photos and use them online (i.e in your blog) or offline as if they were your own.
- There is a great selection of professional photography as well as many user-generated artwork. You can find the right image for any type of project, including newsletters, email add-ons or personal postcards. The imagery adds a touch of professionalism to every project.
My favorite feature about Photo.com is that you can purchase just one photo. If you don't need 2.5 million photos, you don't have to pay for a complete subscription, you always have the option of buying just what you need and nothing more.
Photos.com Cons – Disadvantages
I believe the merchant could be better if:
-
There were some real customer reviews. There is a feedback page for customers to comment on their experience, but whatever they enter is only viewable by the company. Others can't read what feedback is left.
-
The prices were a bit lower. If you only need one picture you are paying $1.99. That is quite a bit for just one picture.
- The registration process worked better. It might only be an occasional issue, but the site is very unreliable in terms of use.
What Merchants Might be Better Than Photo.com?
The key competitors for Photos.com are:
- iStockPhoto (read review and get coupons)
- Maxx Images
- Marathon Photos
- Shutter Stock
- Jupiter Images (read review and get coupons)
- Stock.Xchng
How Does Photo.com Compare to Similar Merchants?
I looked at two different stock photography merchants which are in direct competition to Photos.com.
The first store I looked at was Maxx Images which also offers a huge selection of stock images and photography. The first thing I noticed was the live chat helpline. Photos.com doesn't have this feature. Compared to Photos.com, Maxx Images is much more expensive, however Maxx offers many more discounts and specials. Neither store offers any return policies or guarantees. Since you see the photos before you buy, they don't really need one, but make sure you know what you are getting before you buy. All products offered by both merchants are for downloading only, so there aren't any shipping costs.
The second merchant I researched was Get Stock. They offer over 17 million photos. They have various categories such as Canadiana, environment issues, multicultural photography and a special section featuring photography from the Toronto International Film Festival. As with Photos.com, there isn't much help available and there is no option to return the products, get a refund or a guarantee. Compared to Photos.com finding prices on Get Stock is very difficult. Their pricing structure is very confusing, and they don't offer any specials or discounts unlike Photos.com.
What is the Cost?
Photos.com have several pricing packages starting from $0.99 per picture when bought in packs and up to $988 for a one-year subscription. Packages include:
- Web quality image pack = $1.99 for one image
- Web quality image pack = $44.99 for 50 images
- Web plus image pack = $4.99 for one image
- Web plus image pack = $89.99 for 50 images
- Prints = $7.99 for one
- Prints = $134.99 for a pack of 50
- 3 month subscription includes 100 downloads per week = $299.00
Photos.com frequently offers discounts and coupon codes you can use when ordering. If you cancel your subscription within 7 days, you will get a refund if you haven't downloaded more than a few images. You are never charged for shipping because all products are downloaded to your computer.
You can pay with Visa, American Express or Mastercard.
