My SkinStore.com Review
SkinStore.com is a physician-founded online retailer that has been in existence since 1997. The website offers a broad array of cosmetics, fragrances, and skin care and hair care products and tools. You’ll find over two hundred brand names represented, including Baby Quasar, Elizabeth Arden, Blinc, Marc Jacobs, Calvin Klein, Neutrogena, Olay, and Wellbox.
You can shop for your favorite brand or shop within a general product category, namely:
- Skin Care
- Cosmetics
- Hair Care
- Natural Products
- Men’s Products
- Fragrance
- Gifts
- Tools
You can further refine your search within the category by a large number of filters, such as brand, price, special features, product type, sun care, skin type, or specific concern. The filters vary with the category, of course. For example, I was able to choose to have only items specifically designed for my hair type—curly—when I searched for hair care products. You can also search under the “Specials” tab for the daily special, sale items, and items that qualify you for a free gift with your purchase.
Skinstore carries the famous Perricone MD product line, a collection of Dr. Perricone's world renowned anti-aging skincare products.
Is SkinStore.com Worth It? – Key Features and Benefits
I would buy cosmetics and skin care and hair care products from SkinStore.com for the following reasons:
-
Customer Ratings, if any, are provided on the product display page. I can then read a review with a click of my mouse. I can see if customers who have used the product have found it effective before I waste any money on it.
-
The Product Descriptions provided are among the most complete I’ve ever seen. In addition to providing the ingredients, SkinStore.com describes the uses and benefits of the item and also the directions for its use. I always read the labels when I’m shopping at a brick and mortar store because I want to know these things prior to purchasing the product, and I rarely see this information provided in such detail on online store websites.
- The website has a “Beauty Center” tab that allows me to access information on a number of different topics, including beauty tips and solutions to beauty concerns. I can also get expert advice. Since I am not myself a make-up artist, I find this material to be helpful.
One of the features that I like best about SkinStore.com is its no hassle return policy. If I find that a product just isn’t performing as I expected it to, I can return it within 30 days for a refund—just as long as I haven’t used over 50% of it. This provides me with a lot of peace of mind when I’m making my purchasing decision.
SkinStore.com Cons – Disadvantages
-
The website claims that it is “physician founded and directed,” but it provides no further information on the founder(s) and director(s). There is a link that allows you to email the company for more corporate information, but what shopper wants to go to all that trouble? A bio or two on the shopping site would be a real plus.
- The website has an online chat feature, but it is available only Mondays through Fridays from 11 A.M. to 7:30 P.M. Eastern Time. These are also the only hours that you can contact customer support. These hours simply may not be convenient for everyone. For instance, if I have a question about a product and it’s Saturday morning, I would like to be able to ask it then and not have to wait until Monday.

How Does SkinStore.com Compare To Other Skin Beauty Stores?
I looked at a couple of other websites that are in direct competition with SkinStore.com.
Skin Store versus Skin Beauty Mall
The first store I researched was SkinBeautyMall.com. Like SkinStore.com, SkinBeautyMall.com is a doctor owned and operated website. However, the products covered on SkinBeautyMall.com are selected based on their effectiveness as anti-aging treatments, as indicated by the company’s research. SkinBeautyMall.com has a much more limited selection of cosmetic products than you will find on SkinStore.com, and it carries no fragrance products. Like SkinStore.com, it has a price protection program. It offers 120% price protection, compared to the 115% offered by SkinStore.com.
Both merchants allow opened products to be returned for full refunds, but SkinStore.com has a bit more liberal policy in that it requires only that at least 50% of the product remains; SkinBeautyMall’s return policy stipulates that at least 75% of the product remains. Moreover, SkinBeautyMall’s return period is 14 days while SkinStore.com allows its customers 30 days in which to return the item.
Skin Store versus Cosme-de.com
The second merchant I researched was Cosme-de.com. Like SkinStore.com, Cosme-de.com has a broad array of cosmetics, fragrances, and skin care and hair care products. They also carry an enormous number of brands, some of which you will not find on SkinStore.com, such as Clinique. Other brands, such as Frederic Fekkai, you will find only on SkinStore.com and not on Cosme-de.com. Still others, like Olay and Calvin Klein, are carried by both online merchants.
Cosme-de.com has a customer loyalty program, but I found no mention of any price protection program. Its return policy is a lot stricter than that of the other two merchants. Like SkinStore.com, it stipulates a 30-day return period, but the product must be returned unopened. It does provide free shipping, worldwide. SkinStore.com only provides free shipping within the U.S. on orders exceeding $49. It charges $9.95 to ship to U.S. territories, and anywhere from $14.95 to 25.00 to ship to other countries.
What Is the Cost?
SkinStore.com is devoted to providing its customers with low prices, and I did note that the prices of a couple of its products are significantly lower than the prices for which they’re selling on the manufacturer’s website. The price of the Baby Blue skin care appliance is currently $349 on BabyQuasar.com. SkinStore.com has reduced its price on it from $349 to $249.20. Similarly, Baby Quasar Light Pure Silk with Green Tea Serum, which sells for $60 on BabyQuasar.com, is currently reduced to $48 on SkinStore.com
Some other prices I observed on SkinStore.com are:
- Philosophy Miracle Worker Full Sized Kit = $88 (reduced from $110)
- Avene Thermal Spring Water (10.2 oz) = $12.80 (reduced from $16)
- Jane Iredale Circle Delete Concealer Number 1 (0.11 oz) = $30
- Frederic Fekkai Perfectly Luscious Curls Cream (4 oz) = $25
- Trind Natural Nail Repair = $19
- Olay Pro-X Deep Wrinkle Treatment (1 oz) = $42
As mentioned previously, SkinStore.com provides free shipping to any of the fifty U.S. states on orders over $49. You can pay for your merchandise with your American Express, Mastercard, Discover, or Visa card. You can also pay via check or money order or use PayPal or the Bill Me Later option.
You can return your merchandise within 30 days of receipt for a full refund of the purchase price. (You have 60 or 90 days to return some products.) You do have to get a return authorization number prior to shipping the merchandise back to SkinStore.com, and there has to be at least 50% of the product remaining.
What Are Others Saying? Testimonials – Feedback – Comments
The reviews are mostly positive. Customers praise the fast shipping–and the free shipping on orders of $50 or more. They also like the prices for the most part and the fact that you can find 20% off coupons on line to use on skinstore.com. A couple of people noted that were it not for the coupon, they could purchase the products they wanted cheaper at their drugstore. The few negative reviews I read involved items that had been backordered. Customers complained that they had a hard time cancelling (or changing) the order, and that customer service was not very helpful.
