Solo Slim Side Effects: Weighing The Benefits And The Risks

Marcia's picture

It’s every dieter’s dream: To lose weight while still enjoying favorite foods instead of bland, tasteless meals. That’s exactly what many users of these natural diet pills have been able to do. While little is known about Solo Slim side effects, consumers who use it report that losing weight is easier and quicker. They also prefer it because they take just one pill a day, and it has no ephedra or caffeine.

This weight loss supplement contains several herbs and nutrients that help to suppress appetite, boost energy, and reduce cravings. But having natural ingredients doesn’t necessarily mean it’s harmless. As an herbal supplement it isn’t classified as a drug and the FDA doesn’t evaluate it. This can make it tricky for consumers to figure out the side effects of Solo Slim.

Most users report only mild reactions in the first few days, such as dry mouth, problems sleeping and headaches. But in August 2008, The Hong Kong Department of Health issued a warning about some of Solo Slim’s ingredients because they may increase blood pressure, and cause chest pains and seizures. Here’s some general info on the ingredients and the problems they may pose.

Solo Slim Ingredients: Risks And Side Effects

Fucoxanthin: Although no adverse reactions have been reported, fucoxanthin comes from seaweed, which is rich in iodine. According to Dr. Ray Sahelian, a natural health author and nutritionist, fucoxanthin could interfere with thyroid gland function. Also, some people are allergic to iodine.

Konjac Glucomannan: May hinder the absorption of some nutrients. reports that it can cause bloating, diarrhea or flatulence if you’re not used to a high-fiber diet.

Hawthorn: reports that this herb can cause rashes, dizziness, nausea, sleeping problems, stomach problems, fatigue or drowsiness, irregular heart beat, mood changes and sweating.

L-carnitine: May cause diarrhea, stomach cramps, seizures and nausea and vomiting.

Sibutramine:  According to, this chemical may cause dry mouth, constipation, sleeping problems, drowsiness, headaches, dizziness, and possibly irregular heart beat and mood changes. It is debated, however, whether Solo Slim contains sibutramine or not.

Synephrine: Known also as  "bitter orange", has been associated with irregular heart beat and even cardiac arrest.

Finally, as a general precaution, if you’re pregnant, breastfeeding, or under 18, you shouldn’t take weight loss supplements, natural or otherwise.

What Type Of Side Effects Have You Experienced With Solo Slim?

Been taking it off & on (mostly on) for a year, lost 58lbs!

I have been on Solo Slim now off and on for a little over a year. I started it in conjunction with following Weight Watchers' online plan. I have been on Weight Watchers many many times, but this time, I have successfully taken off 58 pounds! I gave the credit to Weight Watchers originally, but now that I have reached my goal weight and am working on maintaining my weight, I stopped taking the Solo Slim. However my appetite came back with a vengeance and it has been hard staying on track the last few weeks. Today I started Solo Slim again (Extra Strength), and don't feel an ounce of hunger! So I am convinced it was the weight watchers plan that I followed to lose the weight, but Solo Slim played a BIG part in helping me reach my goal. I went from a size 18 jeans to a size 4! I did it without exercise, I have a desk job, however I joined the gym a couple months ago, and am starting to increase my fitness level. I have not noticed any side effects other than mild headache occasionally. I am menopausal (49) so some of the other things I had already like the sweats, etc, so hard to pinpoint what causes what.

I have been taking solo slim

I have been taking solo slim for about two months now and have seen a big difference in the scale. I have lost about 20 pounds total when combining the pill with my south beach diet plan. I didnt recognize any side effects until I started the extra strength, now very rarely I will get a quick chest pain but it subsides quickly. I am 25 and have about 12 more pounds to lose. I am thinking about going back to regular strength to lose the remaining pounds. The biggest benefit to me is that I dont crave the things I craved before so its easy for me to stick with my diet routine and not feel miserable and deprived. Im a fan of solo slim but wouldnt recommend it to older people with any type of heart issue like my dad etc.

I have only taken Solo Slim

I have only taken Solo Slim for 3 days, but oddly enough, I've been awake since the first pill!! I can't sleep. Will it wear off? Years ago I took phentermine and the same thing happened at first, but I thought this wasn't a stimulant.... Either way I'll probably put up with it if it works.

I have only taken solo slim

Staying awake 3 days can cause worse things for you then just the side effects. You need to maybe cut back to every other day or take some melatonin to sleep at night. I have taken it 3 weeks.. First two weeks really good this week cravings back. Lost 8 pds.. back up 2. Today I am sick. Hoping the flu... not side effects

Flu symptoms

I noticed that someone wrote that they are sick with the flu. I am also, and find that strange as no one I know is sick at this time. We all refer to the flu in different ways. I have been vomiting, feeling dizzy, off balance, irregular heart beat and the feeling of vertigo. I have been taking solo slim for 3 weeks and am afraid that these symptoms are related to this great diet pill. I also haven't been sleeping well. Is this what others have been dealing with as well? I really don't want to give it up, as I have lost 10lbs already. I have always eaten healthy and exercised. Loosing weight for me is almost impossible. I would hate to give up the only thing that has ever worked for me.

iodine allergy

I have taken Solo Slim Extra Strength for 8 days. The first few days I felt a little jittery, and I am not sleeping as well as I usually do. I am hungry at all the appropriate times, so I'm not sure my appetitie is being suppressed. However, today, I broke out in a hives-looking rash so I started looking for causes. The only change I have had is this product, so I started looking at side effects. Not much is mentioned about iodine, but when researching the ingredients, fucoxanthian caught my attention. I have had an iodine allergy (or sensitivity) since childhood, so that's what I believe has happened. I will stop taking it, but wanted to report since there are others who are sensitive, too.

The only side effect started after 2 weeks of taking this pills. I did not even think the pills were causing me rashes trough all my body until I commented it with the friend who told me about them. I also experience dry mouth, but it does not bother me. Besides that, the pill is very good. I am considering the pros and the contras of it.

Solo Slim

I was on Solo Slim for five months, took a four month break and started taking it again. I had excellent results with my weight and clothing sizes during the first five months but did experience the dry mouth, light headedness, constipation, etc. I noticed that it tends to build up in your system and it takes a few months after you stop taking it before you are back to normal. On the second round of taking it, I developed chest pain after about 1-1/2 months after starting to take it. I am healthy and only 36. After I stopped taking it, the chest pains stopped. In addition, two acquaintances that started taking it developed chest pain that has required medical attention. I guess you just need to weigh the odds and what you are willing to risk.... to lose some weight the easy way (which really does work) and risk your health or do it the old fashioned way with diet, exercise and willpower. It's up to you. I was a huge advocate of Solo Slim until recently. For me, it is not worth the potential and unknown risks. I have a great husband and three gorgeous girls who love me even if I am a little thick around the thighs. I know I'm not taking it any more.

Just out of curiosity, I'm wondering how many people with adverse reactions are "older"-- Once you're above fifty, the odds of health problems increase and soloslim may exacerbate those. Then again, so would running a mile if you're older and overweight or obese.

I'm 24, 5'3" and 140 lbs. and have had no bad side effects whatsoever-- I'm even prone to heart flutters and haven't had a one. I also haven't had dry mouth or any of the other supposed side effects.

I've been taking Solo Slim for 30 days now and I absolutely love it! In 30 days, I have lost 13 lbs and I feel great. Before this, I was exercising everyday and eating right for about a month and I wasn't losing a single pound. I take solo slim in the morning, eat a bowl of cereal for breakfast, if i'm hungry during the day i have some fruit or a 100 calorie pack, and then a normal dinner. I notice that eating at dinner i am eating half the amount I was eating. I finish my plate and never go back for seconds anymore. Haven't eaten dessert or anything like that, just simply because I don't have the urge! Solo Slim is great for me because I have a heart condition that won't allow me to take anything with caffeine or stimulants in them. This is safe for me to take. Only side effects I've had are dry mouth and I seem to have a lot of air in my stomach and intestines. Constantly feel the need to burp! But no serious side effects, and I LOVE Solo Slim... highly recommended!

side effects

I had many bad side effects. Hair loss, dry mouth, insomnia, diarrhea, cramps, and depleted sex drive. I mean like none, and when it happened, it was dry and uncomfortable as could be. Also had racing heartbeat and nervousness. I stayed on it through a bottle because I thought it was just the getting used to it stage, but after a month, I could not do it anymore. I lost 15 pounds but also lost my sanity dealing with all the side effects.

SOLO SLIM IS GREAT!! But does have side effects.

I started taking Solo Slim mid-December because one of my friends was taking it and lost 10lbs in 2 weeks. I decided to give it a try since, if it didn't work, I'd only be out $50. This stuff is amazing. I'm not sure whether they're the safest pills in the world because I'm not a Doctor, but all the research I've done online, never says ANYTHING about heavy, severe side effects, just mild ones. I've lost 21lbs in 2.5 months and the # on the scale keeps going down, no plateauing so far. I've already lost about 1 1/2 pant sizes. Some side effects to watch out for (that I've experienced) are: (1) The first week of taking Solo Slim, I sweat A LOT doing the simplest tasks like taking a bunch of trash out to the dumpster. (2) The first week of taking Solo Slim, I didn't sleep well. (3) The worst side effect I'm still experiencing is DRY MOUTH. I can never drink enough water (which is actually a good thing I would assume). My mouth always seems dry. But I can live with that :-) I'm just going by what's worked for me and my friends. Everybody's different. But, it has definitely suppressed my appetite. I have to force myself to eat lunch, because I'm just not hungery. I've gone 24hrs without eating because I forgot to (which is not healthy and I would not recommend doing that). THUMBS UP TO SOLO SLIM!

Regular vs Extra Stength

I took Solo SLim last year and ended up loses 45lbs over 5 months. Only side effects I noticed was the slight headaches. Then I realized this only occured when I would not eat due to the fact I was never hungry. You must make yourself eat at least three small healy meals a day in order to get good steady results. I just gave birth to my send daughter and over the past three months started taking it again and so fat have lost 30lbs and not having any side effects with just the regular strength. I tried Extra Stregnth and felt a little shaky. Too strong for me. But all in all I love the product and it keeps me maintaining a good weight because too much fat isn't good for your body either.

my friend started on it first then got me into it. i gained a good bit of weight these past 2 years but i was still in my health weight range, my clothes just didnt fit like before. I tried just about everything and nothing worked. I started working out everyday, eating smaller portions and taking solo slim and lost 20 lbs in one month. sounds unhealthy, i know but i kept up with my vitamins and i felt great! Never experienced any kind of problems from taking it. I stopped everything for a few months and ate how I use to eat before and gained 15 lbs back. now im on it again and things are looking up big time! I stay away from caffene and drink lots of water and workout everyday. My friend lost about 35 lbs in 2 months, with no problems from the pill. I'm sure its not the same for everyone but I would and will be recomending this product for people who want to lose weight. Solo Slim gave me the extra push i needed to reach my goals.

Side Effects not worth this great product

Really dry mouth, dry scalp with flaky scalp (and I have dark hair, so BAD news) and my hair fell out after the second go around... otherwise GREAT product, just cant handle the side effects tho!

Still wondering why..

Honestly, why do you need a product like that when you can just do excercise and eating good? I mean.. You don't need to be sick for losing weight.. Do you really need all of these bad symptoms for becoming thinner? And you need to BUY this thing that causes you to become sick! Not worth it. Maybe some people can lose pounds with that but I still don't understand why they are so desperate.

I saw that some people loss

I saw that some people loss hair with this product. I have been taking it for two months and I noticed my hair fell out as well. I didn't know why????? know I know.

Thanks for posting your side effects... I will not be taking this anymore. I know how to loss weight and don't want to loss my hair in order to do so!!!!!!!

your hair is falling out

your hair is falling out because youre not getting enough nutrition! You're starving yourself... Eat more even if you don't feel hungry ie: fruit, veggies, meat. six small meals a day with balanced amount of carbs and protein.

Solo Slim worries me...

I have been taking solo slim for 2 months now... I've never been one to take diet pills, but it's become a craze at my work, and after seeing it work on so many people I researched it a little and thought it would be ok. I've definitely lost weight... countless people have commented on it and asked what I've been doing, but I've noticed severe dry mouth, and I've been bruising since I've been taking it. I never used to bruise before, unless there was some big impact to cause it. Now I'm looking a bit deeper and see claims that it might contain Sibutramine, while it is not mentioned in the ingredients. Side effects for Sibutramine: dry mouth and bruising. Scary!!!!

Dry Mouth/Slight Headaches at night

I have so far been taking it two weeks, and I've lost 10lbs. This is on top of the 20 lbs I lost in the two months prior.

I have been eating right and exercising. I have to drink TONS of water because of the DRY MOUTH, but my heart rate has actually been great so far (I have murmur). I have a SLIGHT HEADACHE in the evenings but I thought it was because sometimes I would totally forget to eat because the appetite suppressant is really good, so I have to set a timer to remind myself to eat every four hours.

Otherwise things have been fine. Just be be sure, I think I'm going to take some time off.

I love this product! I have

I love this product! I have been taking it off and for 9 months. When I first started taking it, I noticed a little troubles with sleep, and increase in my heart rate, but only for a week or so. Then the symptoms subsided. I also make sure that I follow a health diet and exercise. Drinking plenty of water, and limiting my caffeine as suggested on the bottle. I have lost 30 lbs. and feel great. After about 15 lbs. of weight loss in 3 months, I stopped taking it, because I was questioning taking pills to lose weight. When I stopped taking I was also worried that I would gain the weight I had lost back, but I didn't! It stayed off! I started taking it again a few months later, to help lose a few more pounds, and I did lose 15 more. Now I take it every other day, because I feel I am close to a healthy weight, with only a few more pounds to lose. I don't have any bad things to say about this product. I am sure that the effects are different for everybody, but I caution everyone to read the labels and follow like a healthy diet and exercise plan. If you want to lose weight, you can't just rely on pills. I feel soloslim just helps give me energy and curb my BIG appetite. I have also notice that I am in a better mood a lot of the time, I don't know if that is from the pills, new health lifestyle or a little of both.

The only problem I have had

The only problem I have had is in Sleeping.. but who needs sleep when you are getting skinny..

that is the only problem ive

Solo Slim And Sleep Problems

Hi, thanks for stopping by and adding your comment.

Well, research has shown that people who do not get adequate sleep have a tendency to gain body fat. Take a look at these articles:

Sleeping Less Is Linked To Obesity In Older Adults

Sleeping And Weight Loss. A Bigger Sleep Means A Smaller Waist

How Does Sleep Deprivation Make You Fat?

Does How Much You Sleep Affect Weight Loss?

So, if Solo Slim makes you sleep less, it's probably something to consider.

common sense

Anytime you cut back on calories/ your food intake you may feel dizzy and get dry mouth. The dry mouth is probably dehydration. Anyone with heart problems shouldn't be taking any kind of caffeine pills for weight loss, or in the case of solo slim no herbs. They're caffeine free but the herbs behave the same way obviously.

That said, I'm taking the pills, I'm losing weight, I'm not hungry AT ALL, and I have loads of energy. My only negative is that I can't sleep well. I'm a slim person to begin with that's carrying some extra baby weight after having my 4th. I'm hoping to lose these 15lbs and be done with it. I am drinking tons of water though because these pills are dehyrating. (hence the cotton mouth that's typical) These pills actually make me feel the same as if I've been exercising. I'm a runner and after running a few miles I feel the same- energetic, thirsty, a little dizzy.

I was recommended Solo Slim by 2 friends who've lost weight over the past few months using them.

I drink lots of water but still have dry mouth...

In fact, I have literally been measuring my water intake because I was trying to get 64oz a day...

Although I've never been successful, I am drinking 30-40oz a day and that's ON TOP of one cup of green tea every AM and occasional natural fruit juice and whatever I drink w/ dinner.

I have been on this product for 5 days and my urine has turned very dark yellow with an orange tinge. Definitely have dry mouth and sleeping problems. I am 57 and have been noticing ringing in my ears at night when I go to bed and everything is quiet, but it is suddenly much worse and louder. Makes me wonder if my blood pressure is up. Sorry I can't report because have not been to the doctor to have it checked. I am especially concerned about the urine for concern about my liver/ pancreas. Has anyone else noticed orange urine?

Yes, I had very dark urine

Yes, I had very dark urine after drinking 64 oz of water, and it had a pungent smell.

One day...

One day it was, but it also happened to be a day that I didn't drink a lot of water...

Solo Slim Reaction!

I was taking Solo Slim for about 14 days. I did notice that it made me sometimes feel a little dizzy and I got some headaches.

I went to the doctor for my physical and found out my blood pressure was very high at 140/90 which is not commen for me. I normally check it all the time and it is low. She got very concerned and I told her that I was taking it and she said to stop immediatlly. She said she wanted to check it again in a couple of months.

Do it definitely did not agree with me.

I have taken solo slim for four and a half months, the extra-strength, every other day. I have lost 37 lbs. with little if no side effects, sometimes a little restless at night. I think everyone will react different, just like with everything else. I think this is a great product. I have never been able to find this success with anything that wasn't a prescription. If you a predisposed to certain medical conditions, i.e. high blood pressure, heart problems, thyroid problems, check with your doctor first. If you are relatively healthy like me, it should work with no side effects, but like I said everyone is different.

I have been on Solo Slim for

I have been on Solo Slim for 10 months I started out at 217 pounds 5'4 Ive tried everything in the world and have either gained back weight or I get frustrated I have roughly spread the word to 77 people who are now on this product from diabetes 2 to canceling gastric surg, Not one person has any side effects Dry mouth yes energy yes even occasional constipation from the foods we chose to eat not a word about any of these claims i looked up each and everything in solo slim and not a one is as listed above I took the bottle to 3 doctors they researched and have found none of these things true as well I have been checking around with local health food stores they to agree these claims are untrue so I am worried that something that is a true weight loss product with a actual result maybe getting incorrect information.I feel great look great have not been able to take a single product that would work ALLi caused me horrible bowel problems. Please look at the benefits from this product before not trying it.

Your story reall inspires me

Your story reall inspires me i am going to try and see if it works

Solo slim

I have lost 65 lbs in 5 months and the only side effects that i've had is a dry mouth. My mom is taking them too and feels great too.

My only Side effect

Is having a "dry mouth"....snack foods such as chips and even various breads taste like paper to me, which was a good thing (decrease in the amount of my carb. intake! and sodas just tasted weird, decreased my desire for that extra sugar) and encouraged me to drink more water!! I have been taking Solo Slim for about 3 weeks and I have lost almost 10 lbs....the only exercise I have been doing is alot of walking at work!!

My 25 year old daughter took Solo Slim for approximately 6 months and has lost more than 50 lbs. She doesn't look well. I think she is still losing weight but she doesn't want to talk about it. She thinks I am over reacting. One thing that I read was that you get to a point that you lose interest in food altogether. I think that might be what is happening with her because she doesn't eat very much. She has had many friends who have started using this product because of the results they see with her. I have a feeling there will be something coming out about much damage this product has caused.

I forget to eat...

Yes, I've experienced forgetting to eat. This is pretty hard for someone as big as me who used to eat really big meals... I mentioned in another post, that I set a timer to remind me to eat every 3-4 hours (I eat 5-6 small meals per day).

hot flashes

Since taking it I,ve noticed that my face feels hot to the touch anyone experiencing this I've also had chest pain so i stopped taking it for now

My skin has been very hot

My skin has been very hot feeling, and I have not been able to sleep well, My chest has felt tight, no pain with it just tight, I also have
been dizzy feeling.
I have been taking the extra strength every day. I feel I am just using it to often and not eating or sleeping, this would cause anyone to get sick feeling.
I think if you use solo slim in the right way for yourself as an individual it will work just fine with no side effects, if you already have health
problems anything would make those problems worse.
Take it and if you feel side effects take it every other day or every couple days.

Solo Slim Side Effects and Benefits

I think sweating is the only side effect that I've had. I have Hypo Thyroid and have had issues with in for 9 years. I have lost about 15 lbs with Solo Slim. You CAN NOT become reliant on this! You have to do some work, too. Loosing weight is a change in lifestyle. It's not just about relying on a pill. Good luck!

You do realize this is

You do realize this is dangerous for Thyroid patients due to the huge amounts of iodine it contains from seaweed don't you? Just wanted to mention. Be careful!

Solo Slim

I started taking solo slim last year to loose weight for my wedding. I took it for about 5 months and I lost about 40lbs... I thought all side effects I was having were because of the wedding, now I'm not so sure. I had major mood swings, hair falling out in chunks, elevated heart rate. I also ended up in the hopistal for numbness on the right side of my body and temporary vision loss to one of my eyes. I stopped taking it after the wedding, I got pregnant shortly after and then I started taking it again to loose the baby weight. It's only been a month since I started up again and all the symptoms have come back... I the one that scares me the most is the numbness and the vision loss. Has anybody else had these symptoms?

I was about to make an appt. with the neurologist because I am having numbness in my face and mostly on the right side of my body - hands and leg, feet. I'm glad I read this. I've been off for two days and hope this goes away! How long did it take after you stopped? I took these last year and had only the dry mouth and a little bit of the shakiness you would get from caffeine. Scary! Not worth being skinny to risk your health...

im experiencing dizziness

im experiencing dizziness alot

Side Effects

Since starting Solo Slim a month ago i have lost 12 lbs. I find that however, lack of interest in food can lead to no interest and i have to force myself to eat to keep up my strength. Also in the first two weeks of taking it, i found i sweated quite a bit even when at rest. It went away as my body adjusted to it, but it was unnerving at first and almost embarrassing at times. I also get flushed in the face right after i take the daily dose from time to time. Another thing that has been happpening is that i have episodes of constipation followed by episodes of diarrhea and cramping once able to pass a movement. I am pretty sure it is the supplement and not other causes because this has never happened before like this, and has only been going on since i started the supplement.

I have been taking solo slim for 3 months. I have lost weight, with diet and exercise ... in addition I lost my hair. I felt my hair thinning approximately a month into using solo slimm Recently, I found my hair following out. I immediately stop taking it!! NOT WORTH IT!!!

Solo Slim

I have been on Solo Slim for about 5 mos. I have lo9st 13 lbs. But my hair is falling out in clumps! I now have bald spots. I'm going to stop taking it and see if my hair comes back or not.

I've taken solo slim for over a year

After a year of taking solo slim my weight plateued. I did have occasional irregular heart beats and insomnia. Nothing else to report. I've been off for a few weeks now and have gained back 3 pounds! Damn!

solo slim

I have taken solo slim for 6 weeks i have lost 13 lbs, but I also work out n try to eat right. it helps curve my apetite. I have expereince diarriah especial when I eat bad foods ie fried,or breaded. I do experience headaches but so far that is about it.

Oh, my god

I took solo slim only for 2 days. But I have a irregular heart beat and feel nervous from the first day I took it. My chest also feel painful, and I can't get to sleep. At the beginning, I thought it was my pressure from school that caused this kind of symptoms. I felt it was hard for me to breathe in these three days. But now I supposed it was because of the solo slim. Today, I stopped taking it, and I feel much better right now.
