Now, if we all happened to live in some sort of perfect world then I could tell you right now that we would all be shopping for delicious, fresh food down at the farmer’s market, eating healthy organic chickens that were grown locally, working with friends and family to buy whole entire cows for really fresh organic meat, and going down to local forests and jungles to actually find really fresh organic mushrooms to eat.
But while the ideal situation sounds great and will certainly make you a lot more healthier, the truth is that most people just aren’t able to live like this… simply because it isn’t that practical. Perhaps even if it was I really doubt most people would want to struggle so much.
Believe me, I really find it hard that anyone out there would prefer to spend the whole weekend hunting for food, when they can pop into any convenience store and get whatever they want and need in just 10 minutes flat.
Now, while most of us may not be prepared to actually get out there and hunt for food, I am pretty sure that almost all of us still want to be as healthy as we possibly can… ideally without scarifying any of the comforts that we have gotten used to. The best option for most of us would be to buy the few most important foods that should be organic and don’t cost a lot either.
So understanding that, I’ve worked really hard to put together a list of what I believe to be the most important foods a person really needs to buy organically. These core foods can literally be bought from any food store.
So here it goes with the most important food item being…
1. Leafy Green Vegetables
Believe me, the biggest issue that I have with leafy vegetables such as spinach and lettuce is the fact that they all have really large surface areas.
So what this means is that the pesticides that the farmers spray on these vegetables will more than likely get all over these vegetables… which can be really painful if not completely impossible to remove.
Vegetables that are hard such as a carrot or potato are extremely easy to scrub down without causing any damage to them. But the biggest problem that I have is that you really can’t apply the same kind of force to a vegetable like kale because it will just end up destroying it.
If that one reason wasn’t enough to convince you that you need to go organic when it comes to leafy vegetables then you need to understand and appreciate the fact that most of us eat a lot of vegetables every single day, and if you are eating them non organically then you are intaking an unnecessary amount of pesticides which really isn’t good for your health in the long term.
So believe me it is going to be in your long term interest to make sure that you eat organically when it comes to vegetables from now on.
2. Dairy Products
Believe me, you will notice that there are an incredible number of people all over the world that are lactose intolerant but I will tell you right now that there are even more people out there that actually consume some form of dairy whether that just be good old milk or something else.
Now the number one option for every single one of us is to actually get in there and buy dairy that was just freshly milked from an organically fed cow that very moment… however the reality is that most of us are not fortunate enough to actually live next to a farm. But one thing you can do is to make sure that the dairy that you do eat from now on is 100% organic.
The thing about organic dairy is that it can only be classified as organic if it has met certain regulations and legal guidelines.
The first regulation that every single organic producing cow must meet is that the farmer must allow the herd to actually graze on fresh grass for the entire grazing season. At the same time the farmer must ensure that the cow in question is getting at least 30% of its total calories from fresh grass.
The great thing is that grazing seasons must last at least one hundred and twenty days but often these days you will find that they will last a lot longer. So while you may be spending a little extra on organic dairy you can be happy to know that the dairy that you are getting has come from a cow that is eating a good portion of fresh grass.
But of course, you must note that the non-organic dairy that you find commonly in stores everywhere is actually produced by cows whose diet consists heavily of pesticide ridden corn and soy. This of course then passes onto the milk and other dairy products that are produced as a result. Again this is another reason why you should only ever drink organic dairy from now on.
3. Grass Fed Beef
Now the thing about organic beef is that the same rules and regulations that I mentioned above in regards to organic dairy apply here. So this means that you are going to be getting beef that not only is free from massive amounts of pesticides, but it will taste a whole lot better too.
There have been studies after studies carried out which show that organic beef has far more nutrients in it than the standard beef that most people find in their local supermarket.
Of course the best of the best beef you can buy today is that which has come from a cow that is 100% grass fed. However the organic variety is still leagues better than the standard beef that you are used to purchasing.
The thing about organic beef is that the feed that farmers use for these cows is the same as the feed that is given to cows that produce standard beef, however there is one main difference and that is the corn and soy that is used, is guaranteed to not be genetically modified or will it contain a lot of pesticides in it.
The bonus of course is that none of these cows is allowed to be given any sort of antibiotics or hormones which is something that can’t be said for the standard beef that you find everywhere.
Believe me if we were all living in the perfect world that I had dreamt up in the beginning of this article then every single one of us would be eating all of our foods organically, however the truth is that this just isn’t a reality for most of us.
But starting with the foods that I’ve mentioned here, will be the best place to start on your journey to actually become healthier.
Honestly while a lot of people don’t feel there is much of a difference in eating organic foods, you can be sure that it will make a serious impact on your long term health. So if you want to live a long and healthy life then I’d recommend that you take this very seriously.
