My Thinkstock Photos Review
Thinkstock is a web site that offers high quality, royalty-free photographs and illustrations. They have millions of images, and are adding more every day. They are quite particular about which images they will accept, because they want their offerings to be of a good quality.
I found the site to be very user-friendly. They have categories listed or you can type in keywords when conducting a search. You can also conduct searches based on other criteria, such as the orientation of the photo. I was very pleased with the results of each search that I did, and I found plenty of options in the results.
All of the photos and illustrations that I looked at were great, and I’d be happy to include them in my publications and newsletters.
Is Thinkstock Worth It? – Key Features and Benefits
What makes Thinkstock stand out? Here are a few of the features that I really love.
-
The ease with which I could conduct a search was impressive. In addition to searching by category or keyword, I could further narrow down the search based on the orientation of the image and whether it was a photo or illustration. I could even search for only images that had a white background. Using the “people” filter I could determine the age, gender, ethnicity, and number of people in the image.
-
Some stock photo sites require that you buy the image each time you want to use it. With Thinkstock, you are allowed to use the image for different projects once you purchase it.
-
Image packs of 5 to 250 are available. Monthly and annual subscriptions that allow up to 25 downloads per day are also available.
-
The quality of the images is wonderful. I didn’t have to wade through pages of inferior images to find good ones.
- You will have instant access to images. Just download them and you can use them right away.
Thinkstock Cons – Disadvantages
As much as I like the quality of the images and the ease of using the site, there were some things about Thinkstock that I found to be disadvantages.
-
The cost of images was rather high when compared to other stock photo sites. A 5 pack of images is $99, or nearly $20 per image. Even if I jumped up to the 25 pack for $229 that is still more than $9 per image. The annual packs offered a better deal, but they would really only benefit someone who need a high volume of images.
- Image packs expire after one year. That means that a light user who wanted to save by buying a larger pack would have to use them all within a year or lose them.
What Stock Photography Sites Might be Better than Thinkstock

How Does Thinkstock Compare to other Stock Photography Sites?
I looked at some of the competitor sites and I found that the quality of images at some of them was not always as high as what I found on Thinkstock. That being said, all of the sites had some great images, and many cost much less than they did at Thinkstock.
Compare Thinkstock to Dreamstime
At Dreamstime, I was able to buy images for as little as 20 cents. Of course, to get the lowest prices you have to buy in large quantities or choose the longer subscriptions. Even with a small package of just 8 credits, the cost of images at Dreamstime was as low as $1.25 which is considerably less than Thinkstock. This site also had a generous selection of free images, while Thinkstock only offered one free image each week.
Compare Thinkstock to Getty Images
Another site that I looked at was Getty Images. This site offers video and music along with photos. The images at this site cost the same as or more than Thinkstock. The images are of fabulous quality, and some would be difficult to find anywhere else.
What is the Cost?
Below is a breakdown of the various plans and packages available from Thinkstock.
- 5 pack of images $99
- 25 pack of images $229
- 100 pack of images $799
- 250 pack of images $1499
- Annual subscription with up to 25 images per day – $199 per month
- Monthly subscription with up to 25 images per day – $299 per month
There is often an available savings promo code that offers 10% off the cost of an annual subscription. Payment can be made via Visa, MasterCard, American Express or Discover.
What are Others Saying?
Reviews from other customers tend to mimic what I already wrote when it comes to the cost and quality of the images on Thinkstock. One customer commented that Thinkstock was a fabulous choice for someone who needs a lot of images, for example an online magazine. The best value offered by Thinkstock comes in the form of the monthly or annual subscriptions, so if you need lots of images, this is a great choice.
Another review mentioned the very high quality of the images. He wrote that if you want the rock bottom prices then Thinkstock is not for you. If, however, you want very high quality photos and illustrations at an affordable price then Thinkstock is a perfect choice.
