You’ve decided to lose weight and you know that exercise is important to your success, but did you know that your diet is the single biggest factor when it comes to achieving your weight loss goals. You can bench press 200 pounds on a daily basis and jog 5 miles a day, but if your diet is shoddy, you’ll still pack on the pounds.
With this in mind, we’re going to have a look at the five foods to avoid for weight loss. If you’re serious about losing weight, the foods on this list are deal-breakers.
White Table Sugar
White table sugar has no nutritional value and it makes your body release insulin, which means your blood sugar spikes and you pack on more fat. White sugar is responsible for a large percentage of the weight gain we see around the world. Not only do most people put it in their tea and coffee, but it can be found in candy, chocolate and almost every other type of junk food out there.
Breakfast Sausage and Bacon
I’m going to break a lot of hearts out there, but sausage and bacon are two of the worst things you can eat if you want to lose weight. Both are filled with lots of fat. In fact, most of the calories found in these two foods come from fat, which is never a good thing.
White Bread
White bread (and white flour) is not good for you. Worse, white bread is hard to avoid. It’s everywhere, and we use it for sandwiches, bagels and toast. White bread is heavily processed, and the finished product is about as good for you as sugar. It’s full of carbohydrates, and even one piece of toast can cause a spike in your blood sugar levels. Instead of putting your body through that, try whole grain or whole wheat bread as a substitute.
Doughnuts and Pastry
Doughnuts are cooked in fat, and so is most pastry. They also contain white flour and lots and lots of sugar. This particular ‘food group’ shouldn’t be trifled with if you want to lose weight. Avoid them at all costs!
Soda or Pop
Each glass of soda contains anywhere from 7-10 teaspoons of sugar. Need I say more? Yet, in North America alone, we guzzle millions of gallons of pop per year. If your goal is to shave a few inches off your waistline, you should cut soda out of your diet permanently.
The above list should help you choose food more wisely, which will help you lose weight, and feel better about yourself.
