Starvation isn’t a good method of losing weight even if you’re an adult. Your body needs food to function and grow, which is particularly important to a growing teen. Also, starvation diets generally lead to weight gain.
Sure, you’ll lose quite a bit of weight at the beginning, but eventually your body starts to conserve energy and pack on as much fat for reserve energy as humanly possible. Teens will also lose muscle mass, which slows their metabolism, making it that much harder to lose weight in the future.
Laxatives are Not an Effective Way of Losing Weight

Not only that, but laxatives make it harder for your body to absorb the vitamins, minerals and nutrients your teen needs to develop properly. Long-term use of laxatives can also make you dependant on them. This means your colon will require you to take a laxative before it will work properly, which is never a good thing.
The Veggie Diet
You can successfully tailor a diet geared towards vegetables and still be healthy. The problem is that very few teens do this once they take on a vegan diet. Meat supplies us with iron and protein, which are two nutrients that are desperately needed by growing teens. You can supplement these nutrients by taking vitamins and eating a wide range of vegetables. If your teen has taken to a vegan diet, it’s critical that you do the research and help them meet their nutritional needs.
In most cases, teens don’t need to diet. They can simply maintain a healthy diet and exercise on a regular basis in order to lose weight.
