Weider X-Factor Door Gym Review

March 11, 2011 by John Warbuck 1 Comment

Nothing seems more convenient to me than to be able to take my gym with me wherever I go. The Weider X-Factor Door Gym is a gym that conveniently mounts to any standard door, allowing you to take your workout to any location that has a door.

While the concept is great, the quality of this gym seems to come into question upon further investigation.

How Does the Weider X-Factor Door Gym Work?

The Weider X-Factor Door Gym conveniently attaches to any door and uses resistance to give you the same type of workout that you are able to accomplish with weights. Included are three exercise DVDs and a chart that diagrams 50 different exercises that you are able to perform with either the handles or ankle straps, depending on what area of the body you wish to target.

The bands provide up to 220 pounds of resistance and provide a full range of motion so that you are able to get a complete workout.

It takes 5 minutes to set it up and put it on the door.

What Others Are Saying – Does the Weider X-Factor Door Gym Really Deliver?

A 34 year old woman from Rochester, NY, puts it very well when she says "I struck gold with Weider X-Factor". Having a sedentary (office) job, she was looking for a home gym that would give her a good workout in little time, would be easy to move around, and would cost less than $100. Read her thorough review here.

But there are some negative reviews, too. According to Alex, who tested the device, this door gym has several issues; the most important one being a defect in the resistance. “The huge problem is that the bands on the right and left side don't provide the same resistance,” he explains in his review.

E. Maghonoy states that he really likes the concept and believes that it has potential, but is disappointed by poor quality and the fact that the gym is made out of very cheap materials. “Needless to say I returned it,” he says, shunning Weider for taking shortcuts.

Despite some negative reviews, Tyler purchased the product and canceled his gym membership since then. “I think this gym is awesome,” he says in his review.

Will it Help Me Tone my Muscles and Get Fit?

Some reviewers have reported that the Weider X-Factor Door Gym gives them a great workout while others have mentioned that quality issues and defects get in the way.

Mark A. Brown states in his review that this gym was a great buy due to the fact that he lives in an apartment and space is an issue. The gym is convenient and fun to use. “I leave it on the door, and find that anytime I walk by it, I do some kind of workout,” Mark says.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • This gym is very convenient and portable, able to attach to any standard size door

  • The DVDs and diagrams give you a lot of different exercises to work with, giving you a full workout

Cons

  • There are a number of reports that question the quality of this gym and point out some crucial defects in the product’s design

Problems and Complaints

The quality of the Weider X-Factor Door Gym is constantly on trial, according to Amazon reviewers. Some of the reviewers really liked the product, but there were equally as many dissatisfied customers. My major concern would be the discrepancy in resistance between the left and right bands.

How Does This Compare to Other Door Gyms?

The jury is still out on whether or not this door gym is better than its competition. One reviewer called the Weider X-Factor Door Gym a cheap imitation of a similar product while another review praised it, stating that it was superior and less expensive than the Tower 200, a similar door gym.

It seems to me that people are equally divided on whether or not they would recommend or use this product.

How Does the Weider X-Factor Door Gym Rate Overall?

This gym rates 3 out of 5 on Amazon and the reviews are almost split between good and bad. It seems that you will either love or hate the Weider X-Factor. While there is a mix of good and bad reviews, I noticed that none of the reviews sat in the middle at all.

Where Can I Buy and Where Can I Read More Reviews for the Weider X-Factor Door Gym?

You can purchase this item on Amazon. Right now they are offering free shipping and they offer the most competitive prices I’ve seen currently. You can also read all of the other reviews on this product right there on Amazon as well to determine for yourself which side of the story you want to believe. Read more reviews here.

    X-Factor Plus Pros and Cons
Though I liked the Tower 200, I was never a bit fan of the original X-Factor. I think they really did a nice job improving it though with the X-Factor Plus. It’s a sturdier machine that offers a bit more versatility than the door gyms. The only major problem I’ve found is that they didn’t do a great of designing certain features. The dip station and pull-up bar can be uncomfortable to use if you aren’t tall. The grips are spaced too far apart. This can be very annoying, but those were really just extras anyway. If you buy it for the resistance workouts, then you should be fine.
