How to Get the Fruit and Salad Diet to Work For You

There is some truth to the fruit and salad diet, and that is that making up the bulk of what you eat in the form of fruits and vegetables will help you to lose weight. Vegetables are especially valuable to weight loss, and should appear on your plate a minimum of 3 times a day. You can plan on having a hearty portion of vegetables at every meal, with fruits or vegetables for snacks.

Keep your meals to 300-400 calories each. This keeps your body satiated, and insures your metabolism doesn’t drop. At least half of your fruit and veggie servings each day should be raw.

Make your salads a meal by including a lean protein, such as chicken, tuna, or tofu, and a healthy fat, such as avocado, raw nuts and seeds, or olive oil. Salads like this are an excellent meal, and should be a part of your regular diet and lifestyle. Your salads should also include a variety of vegetables, the more colors the better.

Eat whole grains. There is a lot of talk against carbs being included in this, or any other diet. But, the fact still remains that most nutritionists encourage you to eat whole grains at least twice a day. These provide your body with energy, fiber and other minerals and nutrients.

A Lifestyle Compatible with the Fruit and Salad Diet

What you should always be aiming at is a healthy and sustainable lifestyle. This includes diet, exercise, and other lifestyle habits. The fruit salad diet should be used as a tool to help your body get accustomed to healthy eating habits. Heath sabotaging habits such as excess alcohol consumption, smoking and consuming excessive junk food should be steadily eliminated or brought under control.

I agree with everything except the part about grains. Google 'No Grain No Pain' or 'Wheat Belly'.. As an experiment I ate fruit, vegetables, and protein daily for a few months, lost 2 pounds per week for a total of 25 pounds. Added a small amount of grains to my diet, gained 8 pounds in 2 weeks and retain water. I do cardio 3 times a week minimum and strength training every other day.
