My Zoobooks Review
Zoobooks is a site that sells animal themed books, magazines, DVDs, clothing and other items for children. The three magazines that are available, Zoobies for ages 0-2, Zootles for ages 2 to 6 and Zoobooks Magazine for ages 6-12, are produced by the company.
The books are available individually or as sets. One of the missions of Zoobooks is to help kids who love animals learn to enjoy reading. They try to achieve this goal by providing children age-specific material that will capture their interest.
The site is very easy to navigate, and I was able to search for products based on the age of the child or the type of product. This made it easy to know that I was ordering items that were appropriate for my children based on their age.

Is Zoobooks Worth It? – Key Features and Benefits
My kids love animals. They also happen to love to read. They enjoyed the books, but I think they like the magazine even better. They read the books once and then they just sit on the shelf, but having a new magazine arrive almost every month (10 times a year for Zoobooks Magazine) is a big thrill to them.
Like most kids, they love getting mail with their name on it. More importantly, the magazines are of a very high quality that captures their attention and makes them want to sit down and read each issue again and again.
Here are some features of the magazine that have made it a hit with my kids.

One feature I like is that you can see the content of the magazines by literally flipping over the pages on your computer. This is page number 1 of the current issue of Zootles.
Zoobooks Cons – Disadvantages
I have no complaints about the quality of the products that are available. One of the main disadvantages of the products offered by Zoobooks would be the cost. For example, a one year subscription to the magazine is $33.95 and a set of 18 board books is $106.99.
I also noticed that the site had a very limited clothing selection and only one set of DVDs. I would like to have had more options in these two areas. The selection of books was somewhat limited, but I understand that is because they are producing their own products rather than reselling what is already available from other sources.
So the main disadvantages are:
- High cost
- Limited selection of items
What Sites Might be Better than Zoobooks
There are a quite a few sites that offer animal related materials for children. Some of the key competitors include:
- National Wildlife Federation Children's Magazines
- National Geographic Kids
- Animal Planet Magazine
- Ranger Rick Magazine
- Young Rider
- Dog Channel Magazine for Kids
Note that the final two competitors are examples of animal magazines for kids that focus on a specific animal rather than on the animal kingdom at large.
How Does Zoobooks Compare to Similar Merchants?
After spending some time looking at offerings from others, I found that Zoobooks magazines and books did cost more than some others. Even very highly rated and respected organizations, such as National Geographic, offered magazines about animals for kids that cost much less than Zoobooks offerings.
When it comes to books, there are so many other places, including general merchandise sites such as Amazon.com, where the selection of animal books for kids in seemingly endless.
While the quality of the books, magazines and other items offered by Zoobooks is wonderful, for greater selection and greater value, you might want consider one or more of their competitors. If you want your children to learn in a fun and fascinating way that stimulates their minds; if you want them to sharpen their reading skills with colorful illustrations and develop an appreciation for nature, you cannot go wrong with Zoobooks.
What is the Cost?
The price of magazine subscriptions is $33.95 for one year, $49.95 for two years or $59.95 for three years. I order multiple year subscriptions in order to take advantage of the discount in price. Book packages start at $32.99 for three hard cover books and go up to $739.99 for full 58-volume sets. The DVD set offered by Zoobooks, a three volume set titled Way Cool Wildlife normally retails for $41.95, but as of this writing was on sale for $20.97.
The return policy is a generous 90 days, but Zoobooks will NOT refund the cost of shipping, even if the item is defective. When you return an item you can choose a refund or a credit for something else that Zoobooks sells.

What are Others Saying?
While some other customers agree with me about the price being too high, many say that the cost is worth it. One woman said that her son, who is now an adult, kept every issue of his Zoobook Magazine and still looks over them once in a while.
Another subscriber said that even though the magazine cost more than some others, he found the quality to be superior and well worth the price.
What almost every reviewer agrees about is that the kids love the magazines and really did look forward to receiving them and spending time reading every issue.
