What is Heels.com?
Heels.com is an online shoe retailer that deals exclusively in women’s footwear. The company is a newbie in the industry, having been founded in October 2007 by Linda and Eric McCoy. Its stated mission is to allow customers to “stay ahead of the fashion curve,” which it seeks to do by providing an unparalleled variety of the highest quality of women’s footwear on a user-friendly website.
Listen as Heels.com co-founder Linda McCoy and customer relations representative Lindsay Reid talk about how Heels.com started.
My Heels.com Review
If you’re like me, the name of the website might conjure up images of gorgeous women with long legs perilously strutting their stuff in five-plus-inch stiletto heels. Heels.com does offer an amazing collection of those (the shoes, not the women), but it also has equally large collections of other styles, including:
- Knee boots
- Ankle boots
- Ballet flats
- Espadrilles
- Mary Janes
- Pumps
- Sandals
- Slides
Is Heels.com Worth It? – Key Features and Benefits
Here is what makes Heels.com stand out among other online shoe retailers stores:
-
The variety of shoes is astonishing. Suleika visited the Heel’s warehouse and is giving us a peek right from the center of the shipping department. This is where 100s of shoes are shipped every day.
- The heels.com website is extremely easy to navigate. You can search by function (working, party, everyday), and further narrow your search by brand, style, attribute (ankle strap, pointed toe), heel height, size, and color. This allows you to find exactly what you want with minimal time and effort.
- Heels.com has a loyalty program that awards you one point for each dollar spent. You can then redeem the points at the rate of 15 points per $1. Thus, if you spend $150, you will get $10 off your next order. This makes the price you will pay for your shoes even more reasonable.
-
The site provides videos of shoes that might interest you. The video allows you to envision better how a certain shoe will look on your own foot.
- There is also a new live video chat feature on this website. Customers can ask questions about the fit of a specific shoe or even get advice on the type of shoe that might look best with a particular outfit.
I especially like the 115% price protection program that heels.com offers. If within 14 days of my purchase I find the same shoe at another online site at a better price, I can fill out the price protection inquiry form provided on the site. Once the price at the alternative site is verified, heels.com will refund me the price difference, plus an extra 15% for my effort.
Heels.com Cons – Disadvantages
-
Heels.com carries only women’s shoes and nothing else. If you are looking for a matching handbag or some other accessory item, you will have to go to another website to find it.
-
Heels.com does not carry any athletic shoes, either, so you will have to look elsewhere for those new cross trainers you want.
- There is no width option provided when selecting a size—or at least there was none provided for several of the shoes I viewed-- so if you have a narrow or wide foot, you may not be able to find what you need on this site.

How Does Heels.com Compare To Similar Merchants?
I looked at a couple of other websites that are in direct competition with Heels.com. The first was DNA Footwear.
Heels vs DNA Footwear
Unlike Heels.com, DNA Footwear has brick and mortar stores in addition to its online presence, but this serves no purpose if you buy your shoes online from them because you cannot return the shoes to any of its physical locations. DNA Footwear, like heels.com, deals almost exclusively in shoes although it carries men’s and kids’ shoes in addition to its line of women’s shoes. It also has a limited collection of accessory items, such as scarves, gloves, hats, purses, and wallets.
Both websites provide multiple views of their footwear, including back and sole views. Both sites also provide sizing charts, although the heels.com chart is more inclusive and provides size conversions between the U.S., EU, UK, Australia, Japan, and Mexico. Heels.com offers free second-day shipping and free returns. In contrast, DNA Footwear offers free shipping only on orders of $50 or more, and returns require prior authorization; even then, the return shipping costs are borne by the customer.
Heels.com vs Nine West
The second merchant I researched for comparison purposes was Nine West. Like Heels.com, Nine West carries only women’s footwear. It does, however, carry a limited number of handbags and a few costume jewelry items, such as hoop earrings, bangle bracelets, and stretch stone rings.
The Nine West website is as easy to navigate as heels.com, with a number of selections to help you narrow your search. One of these is a “width” tab, which heels.com does not have. This being said, there are very few shoes in anything other than a medium width offered on the Nine West website.
The number of brands carried by Nine West is substantially fewer than that offered by Heels.com although the website does have its Nine West house brand which is quite popular. A search for “Nine West boots” on the Heels.com site showed they were sold out of every boot and shoe with that brand name.
Nine West offers a customer loyalty program that is almost identical to the one offered by heels.com.
When I visited the Nine West website, it advertised “free standard shipping” followed by an asterisk that didn’t seem to relate to anything on the page. A review of the website’s shipping and handling policies indicated a standard shipping charge of $7 on purchases less than $100, with increased fees for larger purchases, so I assume that the free shipping advertised is a limited-time promotion. As mentioned previously, heels.com offers free second-day shipping.
As was the case with DNA Footwear, Nine West’s return policy does not compare favorably with the one offered by Heels.com. Nine West has a 30-day return policy. The item must be returned in the original box with tickets attached, and the packing slip must be included for a refund. Otherwise, the customer will receive only an even exchange or store credit. Shipping and handling is not refunded, and the customer pays the return shipping cost as well.
What Is the Cost?
The cost of the shoes offered by heels.com varies greatly by category and brand. To give you an idea, some sample prices are:
- Penny Loves Kenny Women’s Candiss = $76.49 (reduced from $84.99)
- Naughty Monkey Women’s Concur Boot = $94.49 (reduced from $104.99)
- Boutique 9 Marl Boot = $259.99
- Paris Hilton Women’s Destiny Shoe = $94.99
- Steve Madden Women’s Pammyy = $99.99
- Frye Shoes Women’s Mimi Scrunch Knee-High Boot = $348.99
As noted earlier, second-day shipping is free. Heels.com accepts only Visa, Mastercard, and American Express credit cards. There is a 90-day return policy. The merchandise must be unworn and in the original packing, but the customer does not have to bear the return shipping costs. Pre-paid FedEx or USPS shipping labels are provided.
What Are Others Saying? Testimonials – Feedback – Comments
Heels.com was listed among the Internet Retailer’s Hot 100 Websites in 2010. The company also received Charlotte’s (North Carolina) Best Site Design award that same year. There are numerous customer testimonials on the heels.com website that rave about the variety of shoes, the ease with which you can find exactly what you want, and the great customer service that the company offers. There are no customer names provided, however, and the email addresses are obscured, for privacy reasons, no doubt.
Nevertheless, reviews found on external websites give credence to these testimonials. They are overwhelming positive as well. There were a few negative comments, however. I read one complaint by a customer who had placed an order and then received an email stating that the product wasn’t available, and several customers complained that they had received shoes that were either damaged or had obviously been worn previously.
